Zelda 64 remakes in FL Studio

Back in my day, Nintendo 64 was king of the gaming consoles. One of the best RPG games ever created was Zelda Ocarina of time (and that still stands well apart from The Elders Scrolls IV Oblivion).

Nick Bertke has reconstructed the catchy tunes from Zelda by ear, entirely within FL Studio. Hours of work must have gone into these tunes so go and check them out.

The songs were created mainly using soundfonts. Soundfonts are excellent as they are really close to sounding like real-life instruments. They consists of a packet of samples in the .wav format and can be quite large in size. The advantage of using soundfonts is that a heavy key press in the FL Studio piano roll will sound different to a light key press.

To open a soundfont in FL Studio, right click on the step sequencer, click on insertrt and select “Fruity Soundfont Player”. FL Studio comes default with one soundfont called ”String Ensemble”. Have a play with the default soundfont and you will hear the difference between a soundfont and a single sample. Soundfonts can be downloaded all over the internet although a fast internet connection is advised as they range in size from 2mb to100mb depending on the quality.
