My Latest Tune in FL Studio

Anto - Trix

Over the weekend I locked myself in my room for many hours and came up with this tune. Made entirely within FL Studio 7. I would probably slot this tune into the dark drum and bass genre. There’s a fair bit of anger in this song which, possibly has something to do with working a dead end boring job!

Well maybe work is a good thing if it inspires my music. Or maybe it is a complete waste of time that makes it impossible to focus on music . I like to think of making music as more of a release from the world, a place where I can put together sound waves and create something entirely new and different.

In the song I used a flanger on some toms to give it that wavy feel you will hear in the intro. There are two drumkits; one for the intro drums and another for the main drums. The pattern for the main drums is shown below.

Both the drum kits go through a TK3 distortion plugin that you can read about in my other post Distortion Demo, followed by the Fruity Compressor.

The bass consists of two elements. 1. Fruity TS404 using the plugin apocalypse and 2. Sytrus using the plugin cube. In this tune the lower sub bass frequencies are taken care of using the TS404, and the mid bass frequencies by Sytrus. There are a few other sounds, mainly in the background (panned to the left and right) to make the tune sound more interesting.

The main mixer channel has another instance of the TK3 distortion plugin, Fruity Multiband Compressor and Fruity Soft Cliper (in that order). I used the distotion plugin to roughen the sound and give that bad ass feel to it! The multiband compressor and soft clipper are used to keep the whole tune from going into the red on the peak meter. Red is bad when dealing with computer music. If your master effects channel is ever in the red, your tune could damage a set of speakers when played at extremely high volumes.

Remember there are no rules for creating tunes, what sounds good is right. Just use your ears!
