Home Studio Monitor Test Using FL Studio
If you have ever wondered how your home studio compares to a professional studio then you should read this monitor test over at Home Tracked.
Download the sine wave sweeping from 40Hz to 300Hz and you will no doubt hear all of the frequency issues you have with the acoustics of your room. I was very suprised to find that there are a number of problems for different frequencies within my room.
Here’s a tip for you to find the exact problem frequencies:
Convert the sine wave sweeping from 40Hz to 300Hz from .mp3 to a .wav file using soundforge and add it into a sampler in FL Studio. (Remember Fruity Loops doesn’t accept .mp3 files because the lead programmer Didier Dambrin doesn’t like the mp3 format because it it is compressed and you lose sound quality, which is fair enough.) Now send the sine wave through a mixer channel and open an instance of Fruity EQ2. Play the sine sweep and watch the Fruity EQ2 spectrum analyser. If you hear the sound suddenly go loud, then you have a problem with that frequency. If you would like to fix that problem by acoustically treating your studio on the cheap side, then check my post Make Your Bedroom Studio Sound Better.
