Headphones
I’m using a pair of Sennheiser HD 280 Pro. Sound great and are not too expensive (AU$250) and comfortable too. The frequency response is good based on the fact that the tunes I make with these translate well on my monitors.
My Tip:
Some headphones these days fit really close to your ears to block out background noise but are really uncomfortable after a time. Just go for a pair that sound good to you and are comfortable (and make sure they are an actual brand name).

The best thing about headphones is that you can make tunes all day long without annoying anyone. Always use a pair of desktop monitors for mastering though.
