So you think the default drums in FL Studio boring and are lacking something? Have a listen to this simple beat I made just using the default drums with no effects.

The drum loop sounds lifeless and really simple. For this tutorial I made the simplest of simple pattern as you can see below. Normally I program all my drums within the piano roll so that I can alter the timings of each hit slightly.

Lets spice these drums up using just one effect; distortion. Distortion will change the way that you make music forever. My FL Studio tunes always seemed to lack loudness and sounded plain and boring but by using distortion they sound a lot better. To show you how good distortion really is, I have routed the same default drum loop through the TK3BandDistortion VST. See what you think!

Sounds dirty and darn right in your face just the way we want it to be! You can download the FL Studio project file right here. Oh, and you will also need to dowload the TK3BandDistortion VST plugin. If you need help to install the VST plugin then just read my post How to Open a VST plugin in Fruity Loops .
